Nearly 50 amateur matadors have been injured in a six-day bullfighting event, commonly known as Corralejas, in Colombia.

Dozens of towns across Colombia's northern plains hold bull festivals at this time of year with Sincelejo, the capital of Sucre Province, boasting the largest Corraleja, a six-day affair during January.

The Corralejas have been held annually in the country for more than 150 years and deaths are not uncommon, with on average, 20 participants dying each year.

Unlike in traditional bullfights, it is forbidden to kill the bulls themselves in these events
