The video called High Five for First Kiss was created by Harmony Smith, 24, from Upland, California who filmed her 5-year-old son, Elliott, sharing his first kiss with their 6-year-old neighbour Bowie.

After sending a link to the YouTube video to Bowie's mother and a few friends, she thought little more about it.

But the video has become a viral hit, garnering almost six and a half million views since it was posted on the video file sharing site on 4 May.

It received a huge popularity boost after Justin Bieber tweeted it to his nine million followers on Friday, and has featured on television host Ryan Seacrest's website and The Huffington Post.

Smith, along with the two children, is now set to appear on US television shows Good Morning America and Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

The video has attracted more than 40,000 comments and a somewhat mixed reaction, with posts ranging from "greatest clip ever" to "sick".
