Prince William went on an unplanned walkabout ahead of his wedding to Kate Middleton to meet royal enthusiasts who have gathered near Buckingham Palace.

The Prince spent several minutes shaking hands and chatting to fans in The Mall.

William was overheard saying to one well-wisher, "I'm worried about the campers", referring to the thousands of royal watchers who have set up home along The Mall and Whitehall to guarantee a good view of the royal wedding.

Kate Middleton is staying at the five-star hotel in Belgravia with her parents Michael and Carole Middleton, along with sister Pippa and brother James, ahead of tomorrow's royal wedding.

The hotel has erected a canopy over the front of the building to ensure nobody catches a glimpse of the bride-to-be in her wedding dress before her marriage to Prince William on Friday.

The special canopy also covers the pavement outside the residence so that Miss Middleton can enter the Rolls-Royce Phantom VI that is taking her to Westminster Abbey without photographs being taken of her before the ceremony.
